PLYMOUTH DISTRICT LIBRARY
Plymouth, Michigan Merritt McPherson Cieslak was selected in 1991 to design a new library for the Plymouth District Library. Our initial task was to determine the best location for the new 48,000 SF facility. After much study, it was decided to demolish the existing library and to reconstruct a new facility at the current location. The design solution had to take into account the very heavily used city site which was shared by the City of Plymouth and the surrounding businesses. The Library itself was broken down into smaller massing elements so as to not overpower the adjacent City Hall and surrounding community. The facility was also designed with an 8,000 square foot third floor which will allow for the future growth of library services. Plymouth District Library 3rd Floor Expansion
